Story Until Now
In the previous episode of Higurashi, we saw Kuraudo and the police force comes and apprehends the people picking on Keiichi. Shion tells the police that they were trying to take her friend’s money by force. Kuraudo then proceeds to ask Keiichi if he was hurt or not and then later thanks the other people for calling the police at the right time. 
Keiichi is now very grateful to Shion for helping him and tells her that he will do anything to pay her back for this. While eating food with Keiichi, Shion tells him that all the people living in Hinamizawa always stay together and protect each other. Shion also tells him about a Dam that would have flooded a lot of villages including theirs if it was made.
Later Keiichi meets up with the others and they are seen talking about the festival. Then we get to know how on the night of the festival there is a mysterious death every year. However, only the people who were involved with the Dam are most probable to die. People say that it is the Oyashio curse.
